Dhoni’s retirement and India’s 2015 World Cup fortunes

Dhoni’s retirement from Test matches must have been a shock for almost everyone of us although most of us did realise that the Test Match results weren’t satisfactory and specially with the 2 whitewash series in England and Australia. Though his records were the best in own turf, the results were quite poor in Abroad Test Series compared to some of the other Test Captains.

Many would object the fact that he retired in middle of the test series (almost end of the test series I would say) and I am sure he would have had plenty of things to be factored before he made the decision. Anyways, the series having won by the Australians, I don’t think that really matters. I feel it could have been his injury and his body’s tolerance having played so many matches in his entire career in all 3 formats specially as a Wicket-keeper Batsman which made him to take a decision. All these apart from his mental ability to face so much of pressure that any Indian captain would have to face.

This no fuss and no publicity retirement has shown a great character in Dhoni and also earned great respect from legends like Sachin, Dravid, Kumble etc apart from the current lots. Although I cannot really guess the exact scenario in the current Team’s Dressing Room on how they feel of Dhoni’s sudden decision, I am sure they would want to give their best for Dhoni in the World Cup coming up in a month as now people would expect a similar fashion retirement for ODI’s as well from Dhoni.

I have this feeling that India might have another great chance of winning the World Cup again and there might a psychological effect in the current team’s mind on giving a bit of extra effort. The retirement also gives best chance for Dhoni to concentrate on his proven and successful formats now.

I wish Team India Good Luck and I hope the final 15 selected from the 30 Probables would be the Best and they also sort out their Best 11 for each match.
