Rahul Dravid’s decision to retire from International ODI and Twenty20

There is a lot we can speak about Rahul Dravid’s (The Wall of Indian Cricket for about 16 odd years) character. Be it is Technique, Style, Temperament, Consistency, Calmness and overall his love for the game and his team. He probably does not know to say “No” because every time India wants him he is there, be it captaincy, wicket keeping, opening the batting, saving the innings with his centuries, even bowling on odd occasions, he never says “No”, he is just there. A genuine person and I have been following him since his days he was representing for India Cements Club.

It was surprising for most of us (Might have been surprising for Dravid himself) when we heard he was going to represent India again for ODI’s for the India-England Series 2011. But again a bit of excitement too will jerk any core Dravid fans to see him in Colored Indian Jersey. The reasons given by the Chairman of Selectors for the team selection was that, they considered the team for the England conditions, which is kind of acceptable, but again it kind of creates a doubt, as I do not think that could be the only reason to select a person who has not played much of the shorter versions of the game for India for past 2 years. Was the Selection committee thinking of giving a courteous Bye-Bye to Rahul Dravid and to let him announce his retirement on that? Well, at least it has given him a chance to Bid Adieu with Pride.

But whatever be the reason, Dravid being a pure Gentleman announced his retirement straightaway after his name was announced for the Indian squad. He just did not want to hang around there clueless. But ‘all is well’ as Dravid has a chance to retire in style from the shorter versions and we can hope from him to achieve more and more in Test Cricket and we would just wish him, his body and mind stays intact and he does not retire from Cricket for at least another 3 years.
